The Wheel of Fortune slot by IGT (WagerWorks) is a slot which is very difficult to weigh up for review purposes.
Based on the TV show of the same name there is no getting away from the fact that the entertainment value of this slot is about as high as you can possibly get, after all, it is IGT (WagerWorks) we are talking about here.
The very clever bonus options will keep the recreational player playing when they would otherwise have perhaps stopped playing.
The graphics are great, as is the soundtrack but there is more to the Wheel of Fortune slot than at first meets the eye as you are about to find out!
Theme and subject
The theme of the Wheel of Fortune slot is the TV show of the same name and you will probably be more familiar with this if you live in the US as opposed to the UK.
This is one of those slots where it doesn’t really matter if you are familiar with the TV show or not, it won’t affect your enjoyment of the game in any way.
This is actually quite an accomplishment by IGT (WagerWorks) as there are quite a few other slots which are based on TV shows or films where if you weren’t familiar with these shows or films, the slot would be of no interest to you whatsoever.
The Wheel of Fortune slot is one of those games where there is so much going on it is easy to get caught up in the game and lose track of time.
We mentioned in the intro to this review that there is more to the Wheel of Fortune slot than meets the eye and the reason for this is that when you start to play the game you will notice that you don’t have to wait long in-between wins.
For those players who have experience in playing games such as the Game of Thrones slot by Microgaming, these regular wins will come as a welcome change and immediately endear the player to the game.
The thing is though, and what you should be aware of, these regular wins are often the same or smaller than the stake size which is being used!
If you haven’t already guessed the outcome of this it is as follows.
The inexperienced player could be playing away happily, pleased with the regular wins that are coming their way only to glance at their playing balance and notice that it is dwindling away at a very steady pace.
It sounds like a scenario that you would surely notice but it is so easy to get carried away so it is something that you should be aware of.
This doesn’t make the Wheel of Fortune slot a bad game, far from it, but the way that it plays out can lead inexperienced players into a false sense of security and they could end up losing more money than they bargained for.
Symbols and soundtrack
The soundtrack has been lifted directly from the Wheel of Fortune TV show so as you would probably expect, it is of the highest quality.
It must also be said that the fast paced nature of the soundtrack suits the game perfectly and even though IGT (WagerWorks) would not have had much input with regards to which soundtrack is being used, it has been incorporated in with the gameplay perfectly.
As far as the symbols themselves go, the first positive point is that the usual ten, jack, queen, king and ace are notable by their absence.
IGT (WagerWorks) have been far more inventive with this aspect of the slot and instead the symbols which indicate different parts of the US which are associated with the road trip nature of the game.
Places such as Hollywood and New York are included amongst others as well as a Route 66 sign and a Route 66 map.
The Wheel of Fortune symbol represents the wild and the yellow bus symbol represents the scatter.
The bonus options for the Wheel of Fortune slot are extremely entertaining to say the least and there is an ingenious aspect to the bonus which could go a long way in tempting a player to carry on playing.
The way it works is like this.
Each time a scatter symbol appears (but not when they trigger a bonus) the fuel gauge which is situated in the bottom left hand corner of the screen gets fuller.
When it is indicated as being full it states that you have gone up a level and when five of these fuel tanks are full it will result in an enhanced bonus offer if and when the bonus is triggered.
The bonus is triggered when three of the scatter symbols appear on reel numbers one, three, and five.
When this happens and adding to the entertainment value of the game, a new screen appears which is in the form of a map and this is where something by the name of the wheelmobile will move around the map, how far is dependent on how many fuel tanks you filled up during normal gameplay.
Each level unlocks a different bonus and they are listed below.
The first level results in free spins becoming available on the bonus wheel with the second level resulting in the highest prize section of the bonus wheel becoming enlarged.
The third level means that the letter board picker becomes an option on the wheel whilst the fourth level results an extra spin and a multiplier of five for any subsequent wins.
Level five means that the spin to win feature becomes available on the bonus wheel with level six resulting in the base game feature becoming unlocked.
It is then just a case of spinning the wheel to find out exactly what lady luck has in store for you.
Special mention should also be made of the Wheelmobile wild feature which can appear in normal game play and result in some attractive looking winning lines.
Pros and cons
The Wheel of Fortune slot will probably appeal more to the recreational player as opposed to the high roller but that is neither a positive or negative aspect of this slot, just an observation.
Credit should go to IGT (WagerWorks) for a job well done but let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons of the game to help you decide whether you will give it a go or not.
- A game which is very busy on the eye as there is always something going on
- Symbols which are imaginative as opposed to the usual ten, jack, queen, king and ace
- The bonus rounds can provide some decent pay-outs especially if you have played for long enough to fill the fuel tanks
- The soundtrack is just as you would expect from a slot which is based on a TV show which is very good
- It could be argued that the fuel tank feature during normal gameplay could tempt you to player for longer than you should
- Even though wins are regular it can be misleading as they are often the same or smaller than the stake size
- People who have not heard of the Wheel of Fortune TV show may not be interested in even playing the game
- It can sometimes mean long sessions of gameplay without the main bonus being triggered
If you enjoyed playing the Wheel of Fortune slot it would probably be a good idea to take a look at a couple of other slots by the same software provider, IGT (WagerWorks)
The Family Guy slot would be a good place to start, especially if you enjoyed the TV show of the same name.
This one has some great bonus rounds as well as highly entertaining gameplay and it definitely a game which you should consider.
Another slot by IGT (WagerWorks) which you should try is the Kitty Glitter slot.
This one is not based on a TV show but is a game which usually receives rave reviews from anyone who plays the game.
It doesn’t really matter if you are a fan of the subject matter and this is another slot which comes highly recommended.
