The worms are back! In this sequel the worms are angrier, stronger and full of fun surprises in form of many different bonus games, as well as a progressive jackpot. Bets can be set from 20p up to £500 per spin, creating great possibilities for the high rollers. With 5 reels, 20 fixed paylines and impressive graphics, this is a video slot that we find very enjoyable. The British casino game developer Blueprint Gaming has done it again. High value symbols include the game’s logo, blue and red rockets, a shotgun and a flying worm fist. So, get ready, because the worms in this game are reckless, impatient and furious.

    Theme, characters and environment

    Game theme

We all remember Worms from way back, at least those of us that are over 30. It all started pre-Internet, when we were playing our way up through the levels on our old PCs. Back then we could play the days away, and we still can. This is a wonderful video slot that really does the game justice – it is not often we see so many bonus games in one single video slot. Load, aim, fire, repeat.

    Environment and atmosphere

The game has really good graphics, with a golden frame and fluid reel-set appearing against the backdrop of a grey net. In the background we see a battlefield that is under siege, with flying cannonballs, random fires and all that lovely chaos we associate the naughty worms with. It is a modern design, with a green slightly translucent spin symbol on the right-hand side, and a big betting regulator to the left. Every single element in this game screams WAR, including the well-made symbols on the reels.

    Symbols and soundtrack

    Symbols and sound

Amongst the standard symbols we find:

    1. 9, 10, J, A, K & Q
    2. Rockets and guns
    3. Angry worm fist

    Special symbols

There are plenty of special symbols in this game, like the Worms Reloaded logo and the Wild symbol, which substitutes for all symbols except for the Bonus symbol. All these special symbols are designed with worms on them, so they are also funny to look at. But more importantly, they activate bonus features like Banana Bomb Wilds, the Holy Hand Grenade, the Teleport Mayhem, Battleground Bonus, Jetpack Bonus and Super Sheep Free spins, provided that they land in the right position.

    Music and sound effects

When the game starts you hear a worm screaming “Prepare to die!”, and that sort of sets the scene for the rest of the game. We already know that these are no friendly creatures. Each spin is accompanied by a rhythmical drum beat with an ice cold echo, as if they were drums of steel. Each win comes with a ding dong sound, and once the bonus features are activated, the music changes. All sounds fit nicely with the game theme.

    Bonus options

    Bonus options

Worms Reloaded is a hit among slot players because it has a whole bunch of bonus features. Players get to play them all over time: Battleground Bonus, Jetpack Bonus, Super Sheep Free spins, Banana Bomb Wilds, the Holy Hand Grenade, the Teleport Mayhem and the Concrete Donkey.

    Worms Reloaded Main Bonus

This bonus is triggered when bonus symbols land on reels one and three, and one of four special symbols on reel five It is the special symbol that determines which one of the bonuses the player will be rewarded: Battleground Bonus, Jetpack Bonus or Super Sheep Free spins.

In the Battleground Bonus the player gets to pick out the mines on display, in order to earn cash prizes, multipliers or a ‘collect’ which will end the round. The Jetpack Bonus lets the players pick out UFOs, in the attempt to make it to the end of the first stage by avoiding both mines and dynamite. Those who don’t die are rewarded with the Big Money round, where you pick a planet to reveal a prize.

During the bonus round of the Super Sheep Free Spins you get six free spins on a 5×4 set of reels, where sheep wilds are randomly added to the reels. Be careful though, as the worms are angry and want to shoot them from the reels. Should you get to the Blitz Blast Free Spins, there are an unlimited free spins awarded, but each time the worm symbols lands on reel five you’ll advance up the multiplier trail/fuse until you reach the top and the round is over.

    Worms Grenade Bonus game

During the Worms Grenade Bonus game, which is a randomly occurring bonus, you will receive the Banana Bomb Wilds, the Holy Hand Grenade, the Teleport Mayhem or the Concrete Donkey.

The Holy Hand Grenade adds symbols to the reels in order to give the player a better chance of triggering the main feature. If you get the Banana Bomb Wilds, these symbols will be added to the reels which will be evaluated; a worm firing a bazooka will award an extra spin. In the Teleport Mayhem the symbols are rearranged into a guaranteed win, and it can also be repeated if you’re lucky enough. Should you get the Concrete Donkey, then concrete donkeys will fall onto the reels and create wild symbols. Hate it when that happens in real life, but fortunately it is a good thing in Worms Reloaded.

    Progressive Jackpot

How many video slots offer a progressive jackpot? Not many enough, so this is a great feature in this game. The progressive jackpot bonus game is triggered when the player gets five of the Jackpot King symbols on reels 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Then the wheel is spun to collect more crowns and move up the ladder towards the Wheel King. This is the place where you get to spin the wheel for a chance on the progressive jackpot.

Pros and cons of the slot

Worms Reloaded is a wonderful video slot with lots of interesting features and lucrative winning opportunities. Sometimes you may find that it requires quite a lot of spins before a bonus feature is triggered, which may have something to do with the RTP which is slightly low. However, once it kicks in, you are there and it is a real treat to enter any of the bonus rounds that this slot offers.
